Take a Yoga Break to Focus & Increase Work Productivity

By David L

Many employees are starting to realize how their jobs can be negatively impacting their health. Stress can be very damaging to a person’s body. It can affect you emotionally, physically and cognitively, and it’s not something to take lightly.

Sitting at a desk all day can also impair your health. You could end up with back problems and sore muscles if you’re not sitting properly, and you could develop carpal tunnel. If you sit in front of a computer all day, you could also be damaging your vision.

So how to do you combat all of these work-related illnesses and issues? You take up yoga.

Yoga helps you deal with stress.

Stress is very serious to your health, and if you don’t monitor your stress levels, you can find yourself suffering a multitude of symptoms, including moodiness, memory problems, chest pain and even isolating yourself from other people. A great way to battle stress is to learn how to calm your body and your mind through yoga. In fact, a recent study suggests that doing 20 minutes of yoga everyday can reduce stress and give individuals a better night’s sleep.

Yoga can change your mindset.

If you allow certain situations to irritate you or if you can’t find a way to change negative situations, it’s going to make you less interested to come to work and less motivated to get your job done. Yoga can help change your mindset and allow you to look at all your options and choose the one that is the less stressful. It also allows you to look differently at situations and find a better solution that keeps you calm and productive.

Yoga keeps you healthy.

Yoga is a form of exercise that keeps you healthy. When you take the time to exercise and stay healthy, it can help you make other healthy choices in your life that can influence your productivity. For example, you may start to eat healthier foods that increase your energy levels and allow you to stay focused and improve productivity. Or you may stop smoking, which can improve your mood and give you a better outlook.

Yoga can help you succeed.

When you’re healthy and happy, you exude this onto others around you. You will be happier to come to work, you will make more acquaintances, people will want to work with you, and you’ll do a better job. All of this can help you succeed, and it may even help you land a large promotion and give you the boost you need to climb the corporate ladder.

Many companies are realizing how healthy employees keep their focus and are better for increasing productivity, and they encourage their employees to take yoga breaks throughout the work day. Some companies like AT&T and Bank of America have hired outside yoga instructors to come into their offices and hold yoga sessions with their employees. Other companies have instituted wellness plans into their business strategy to keep their employees healthy and happy.

If your company offers these perks, make sure you take full advantage. But if your company has yet to jump on the employee wellness bandwagon, make sure that you take the initiative for yourself. Yoga can greatly influence your productivity and your focus, and it’s an easy way to de-stress during the work day. Find a local yoga studio and attend a class during your lunch hour, or find a nearby park and perform some yoga stretches on your own.
