Chrysoprase balances the Yin and Yang energies and aligns the chakras within the etheric plane. This stone is good for charging the second chakra, Svadhisthana and the fourth, hearth chakra, Anahata with vital energy. In addition, Chrysoprase synthesizes the energies of the heart chakra, bringing compassion, altruism, happiness, balance, and love for the truth. It also conducts the universal energy into the gross physical body and heals the inner child.
Chrysoprase comes in the range of colors from apple green to old gold. If processed, this opaque to semi-transparent stone usually shows a waxy luster. The color of the green variation can vary, going from light down to very deep green shades.
Formula: SiO2
Hardness: 6.5–7
The best Chrysoprase specimens originate from Arizona, California, Western Australia, Germany, Poland, Russia, and Brazil.
The name of this stone comes from the Greek terms, chrysos, meaning “gold”, and prason, meaning “leek”. Chrysoprase is a variation of the Chalcedony family. It is a microscopic fibrous form of Quartz with small concentrations of nickel. Chrysoprase is cryptocrystalline, meaning that it has numerous small crystallites, so delicate and fine that it would take a strong microscope to see them. This is what separates all cryptocrystalline forms from Rock Crystal, Amethyst, Citrine, and the other crystalline varieties of Quartz, which are transparent in their basic forms and easily recognizable by their six-sided prism crystal shape. Some other cryptocrystalline Quartz minerals are Agate, Carnelian, and Onyx.
What makes Chrysoprase really special, when compared with the other members of the huge Quartz family, is its color. Owing to the relative rarity and the loveliness of color, this stone is one of the most appreciated Quartz varieties.
The samples of higher quality can often rival Jade in appearance. Unlike Emerald, which owes its color to traces of chromium, Chrysoprase’s color is because of the presence of nickel in the crystal structure of Quartz.
The history and lore of Chrysoprase are very interesting. At the beginning of 18th century, it was believed that thieves would become invisible and avoid punishment if they put this stone into their mouth. It is assumed that Alexander the Great was a great admirer of Chrysoprase, and that he wore one for protection and to secure a victorious outcome during his battles. The old Romans wore Chrysoprase jewelry to protect themselves against the evil eye.
Chrysoprase increases the sexual power. It is considered a crystal of fertility and energy balancing. It helps in manifesting all our needs and promotes courageous leadership. The best place to put Chrysoprase is close to the heart chakra, where it promotes the meditative states of consciousness. Being a green form of Chalcedony, Chrysoprase embodies practically all of the metaphysical properties of this class. Metaphysical work implies maintaining a non-judgmental position. This stone promotes this neutral state of mind, ensuring that we learn to love ourselves, heal our heart, and forgive.
Chrysoprase lowers high blood pressure. It also aids the second chakra when there are problems related to the reproductive organs.
Because it is such a potent absorber of environmental energy, Chrysoprase should be cleansed before use in running water and charged together with Rock crystal stones. Occasionally, it should be charged in the sunlight.
Chrysoprase elixir is used for treating the prostate, ovaries, and bladder.
